Terry Jackson, Wildcat Founder, Passes Away at 73

The founder of one of Maricopa’s most enduring businesses, Wildcat Landscape Materials, has passed away. Terry Jackson, who established the company in 2004, died on December 6 at the age of 73.
Donnelle Schimpa, who succeeded Jackson in managing the business, shared her memories of him, stating, “Everybody knew him well.” Jackson trained Schimpa to lead the company as he retired alongside his wife, Marsha, in 2019. She soon realized that running Wildcat was a demanding endeavor, contrary to how effortlessly Jackson made it appear.
To navigate the complexities of the business, Schimpa enlisted her husband, Donny, and transformed Wildcat into a family-operated venture. “He was such a friendly fellow,” she recalled, noting Jackson’s foresight in recognizing the need for rock and gravel supplies in Maricopa during a time when the population was just beginning to grow.
Throughout his career, Jackson supported many landscapers, contributing to the industry’s growth in the area. Schimpa mentioned that Jackson’s business helped numerous contractors launch their companies and take pride in their successes, especially following the 2008 economic downturn.
A tribute from the Jackson family on Facebook highlighted his hardworking nature, stating, “He saw a vision and made it happen.” The post reflected on his legacy, noting his pride in supporting local contractors and his family’s importance in his life.
Schimpa expressed deep appreciation for Jackson and acknowledged the impact he had on her family’s endeavors. “He will be extremely missed, and my family and I will forever be thankful for picking us to keep his Maricopa dream alive,” she said.
