Pima County Unveils Bold New Climate Action Hub: Act Now!
Pima County is set to launch a new climate-focused website named Pima CAN!, designed to provide the public with information on the county’s Priority Climate Action Plan, as well as various resources related to sustainability. Officials announced that the site will go live in the upcoming year.
Sarah Davis, a senior advisor to County Administrator Jan Lesher, presented the initiative to the Board of Supervisors during a recent meeting. “Pima CAN! should be the name where the public can find anything,” she stated. Davis emphasized the importance of creating a centralized hub for content from the county’s 11 departments, especially in emergency scenarios such as extreme heat events or forest fires.
Though the website’s address has yet to be revealed, updates regarding the climate plan will continue to be shared at Board of Supervisors meetings every two months, making further announcements likely in the new year. Additionally, Pima CAN! already serves as the title for a regular email newsletter disseminating environmental information from county officials.
The Priority Climate Action Plan itself is a collaborative effort between Pima County and the Environmental Protection Agency, contributing to a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
