Lakes Man Creates Enchanting Winter Wonderland in His Front Yard
In a festive twist on winter traditions, Andrew Coonts has transformed his front yard into the “Original Maricopa Snowhouse” at 40380 Bravo Drive, making it a highlight of InMaricopa’s Holiday Homes on Parade. This local resident has brought the magic of snow to the desert by renting a snow machine, allowing families to experience a winter wonderland right in Maricopa.
As one of the stops on the parade, Coonts invites the community to vote for their favorite Christmas lights display. His home is entry No. 20 in this popular contest, where the winner will receive a $500 cash prize alongside gift cards to local businesses. Last year, the event attracted over 30,000 voters, underscoring its significance in the community.
The Snowhouse opened to a large crowd this past Sunday, offering families a unique opportunity to enjoy the holiday spirit, even as temperatures soar above freezing. Participants can engage in snow-related activities, including making snow angels, with one mother captured on social media demonstrating the joyful activity to her child.
Coonts has also incorporated a charitable element into his event, requesting attendees bring nonperishable food donations for the F.O.R. Maricopa Food Bank. “These donations will go directly back into the community of Maricopa,” he emphasized, highlighting a spirit of giving during the holiday season.
To alleviate parking concerns in the neighborhood, Coonts urges guests to park on nearby Daniel Drive and walk to the Snowhouse. “This will keep the congestion down in the street,” he explained, prioritizing safety for the many children attending the festive event. He encourages everyone to stay on the property line or sidewalks to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
If you missed the opening weekend, there are still several “snow dates” available for the community to enjoy:

- 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22
- Same time on Christmas Eve, with this being the final snowfall of the season
