Swept by the Seahawks: Cardinals lose 2nd game in 3 weeks to Seattle, suffer major blow to playoff hopes

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals’ postseason ambitions took a significant hit this week, plummeting to an 18% chance of making the playoffs following their defeat to the Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals now sit below a .500 record after falling 30-18 in a divisional matchup.

Seattle’s defense demonstrated its prowess as Arizona’s Kyler Murray attempted to evade pressure in the waning moments of the game. The Seahawks, boasting a record of 8-5, have now won four consecutive games and maintain their lead in the competitive NFC West.

Linebacker Ernest Jones IV emphasized the mindset in their performance, stating, “We didn’t want them to score. We want to be dominant throughout the game.” Indeed, after a sluggish start, Seattle controlled much of the second half, aided by a stellar performance from rookie running back Zach Charbonnet, who rushed for 134 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Quarterback Geno Smith contributed significantly by passing for 233 yards while navigating the game without a single sack. “Dude, I thought the [offensive line] was phenomenal,” Smith remarked, expressing confidence in the team’s potential to win consistently.

The Cardinals, meanwhile, faced disappointment after a promising start when Murray connected with Michael Wilson for a touchdown on their opening drive. However, their momentum faltered as Murray threw back-to-back interceptions in the first quarter, a rarity in his six-year career.

Despite attempts to rally, including a touchdown pass to James Conner and a failed field goal attempt by Chad Ryland, the Cardinals ended the game unsuccessful and now find themselves on a three-game losing streak. “It’s tough. It falls on me,” said head coach Jonathan Gannon, reflecting on the team’s struggles. “I’ve got to go back to the drawing board.”

Seattle’s victory solidified their dominance in the season series, marking seven straight wins over the Cardinals. The Seahawks’ next challenge will come against the Green Bay Packers, while the Cardinals will host the New England Patriots in hopes of reviving their season.
