Food Bank Steps Up to Support Local Families in Need
The Desert Mission Food Bank in Arizona is experiencing a significant surge in demand this year, serving over 40 percent more households compared to last year. With the holiday season in full swing, higher traffic is expected as families come to collect groceries.
Community members are encouraged to contribute by donating food. Donations are crucial and can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Fridays between 9 a.m. and noon.
To find a list of urgently needed items and detailed drop-off instructions, residents can visit the official website. Additionally, the Desert Mission is initiating its annual Holiday Adopt a Family event, which connects families in need with donors willing to assist them in fulfilling their holiday shopping wishes.
Staff members have noted a developing waiting list for donors interested in participating. Those who sign up but cannot be matched this year will receive priority notification when the program resumes next year. Furthermore, toy donations are welcomed and will be distributed to both families in the Holiday Adopt a Family event and children visiting the food bank.
For those looking to get involved in the long term, volunteer opportunities will become available in January. Interested individuals can register to help through the Desert Mission website.
Located at 9229 N. 4th St., the Desert Mission Food Bank offers resources for those in need. For more information, prospective donors and volunteers can call 602-870-6062.
