A woman from Homestead has been arrested for making false claims to the Maricopa Police Department while being pregnant and under the influence of alcohol. The incident unfolded on Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m.

Forty-year-old Shantrice C. Wilkerson called the police to report a burglary and alleged that her husband had strangled her and was “armed and dangerous.” According to Wilkerson, the couple had argued over gas money, which led to her husband allegedly strangling her. In a troubling twist, she revealed that she began drinking to spite him as he left the house with a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers noted that Wilkerson exhibited no physical injuries or marks. In an effort to resolve the situation, the police located her husband near Porter and Smith-Enke Roads. However, he was not found to be in possession of any weapon.

During questioning, the husband denied any physical confrontation, stating that their argument was purely verbal. Subsequently, his mother provided police with troubling text messages exchanged that day between her and Wilkerson, wherein Wilkerson threatened to harm herself and her children.

This revelation prompted police to release the husband. Officers then returned to Wilkerson’s residence, where she confessed to fabricating the burglary report, admitting she had done so to attract attention from her husband and his mother.

Due to her alarming statements regarding potential harm to herself and her children, Wilkerson was placed in protective custody. Although she was offered a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner exam related to her strangulation claims, she declined just before the procedure.

Wilkerson now faces charges of criminal nuisance and false reporting, with a potential prison sentence of seven months if convicted on both charges.
