Centennial and Mountain View Clash for 2024 6A High School Football State Championship

In an unexpected twist, the Coyotes are poised for a shot at the state title following their challenging regular season. The 6A Playoffs have led them to a showdown against Mountain View, with the winner walking away as the 2024 state champion.
PHOENIX — Just three weeks prior, few would have predicted that No. 14 Centennial and No. 4 Mountain View would meet in this decisive match. Centennial, ending the season at 6-7, narrowly made the playoffs after a difficult start that included a humbling loss to archrival Liberty in the 2023 Open Division State Championship Game. After a slow start, including a 42-7 victory over Boulder Creek, the Coyotes managed a few more wins but faced challenges throughout the regular season.
Centennial’s playoff journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Dominating wins against No. 3 Red Mountain, No. 11 Casteel, and most recently, No. 2 Queen Creek, culminating in a 37-32 semifinal victory, have reignited hopes for a state title.
Conversely, Mountain View’s path has been smoother. With a record of 12-1 and a strong showing in the regular season and playoffs, the Toros rolled through their competition after suffering an early setback against defending champions Liberty. Their recent victory over No. 1 Brophy, edging out 28-27, showcased their resilience and determination.
The Coyotes are no strangers to the state title atmosphere, as they prepare for their 13th appearance in a state championship game. Their previous victories include seven titles spanning various divisions, with the most recent in 2018. Meanwhile, Mountain View aims to capture its first championship since 2006, boasting a legacy of eight titles in its history.
The 6A State Championship Game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Arizona State University’s Mountain America Stadium in Tempe. As the excitement builds, all eyes will be on these two teams vying for the ultimate prize.
