2 former Friday Night Fever stars were given Player of the Week awards by the Big Ten after helping lead Washington to a win over UCLA

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Two former Arizona high school football stars have received accolades from the Big Ten Conference for their impressive performances on the field this past weekend. Washington quarterback Demond Williams and defensive lineman Russell Davis II earned recognition following their significant contributions in a game against UCLA.

Williams, a former Basha Bear and the reigning Friday Night Fever Offensive Player of the Year, was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Entering the game in place of the injured Will Rogers, Williams guided the Huskies to victory, orchestrating three scoring drives, including a touchdown pass to Decker DeGraff, contributing to Washington’s 31-19 triumph.

During the game, Williams completed seven of eight passes for 67 yards and rushed for an additional 31 yards on six carries. His standout high school career at Basha High School included leading the team to its first-ever state championship in 2022, amassing 3,250 passing yards and 34 touchdowns, along with 1,136 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in his senior season.

Initially signed to play for Arizona, Williams transferred to Washington after head coach Jedd Fisch left for Seattle. His performance this weekend marks a significant milestone in his college career.

Meanwhile, Davis, also known as Deuce, was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week after a stellar performance that featured three sacks and a forced fumble, which he also recovered. This key turnover contributed to Washington’s second touchdown and solidified the team’s bowl eligibility.

Davis previously played two seasons with Arizona, recording 28 tackles and 3.5 sacks during his time there before transferring to Washington, following Fisch’s coaching switch. He had been sidelined for the first two months of the season due to injury.

This recognition from the Big Ten represents the first weekly honor for both players, highlighting their potential and skill as they continue their collegiate football careers.
