Local governments have two weeks to canvass election results

The 2024 General Election results are nearing official confirmation, with Arizona’s 15 counties tasked to finalize the outcomes soon.

Arizona law mandates that county boards of supervisors canvass election results within six to 20 days post-election. The canvassing for the Nov. 5 election begins Monday, with a deadline of Nov. 21 to report findings to the Arizona Secretary of State. The statewide canvass is due by Nov. 25, prior to the final certified results being sent to Congress next month.

Preliminary results indicate a win for President-Elect Donald Trump, who garnered 1.385 million votes, leading Vice President Kamala Harris by 155,225 votes.

In the Senate race, Democratic U.S. Senator-elect Ruben Gallego appears victorious with 1.3 million votes, ahead of Republican challenger Kari Lake by 43,830 votes.

In Mohave County, the election favored Republicans, with 72,481 votes for Lake and 77,920 for Trump out of over 100,000 total voters.

Incumbent District 9 Congressman Paul Gosar defeated challenger Quacy Smith decisively, securing 203,034 votes in a district that includes Mohave, La Paz, Yuma, and parts of Maricopa County.

This year, all five seats on the Mohave County governing board were contested. Four Democrat candidates faced Republican incumbents, yet Republicans emerged victorious, with Ron Gould and Travis Lingenfelter retaining their seats while fellow Republicans Don Martin and Sonny Borrelli triumphed over their Democratic opponents.

However, the night wasn’t completely favorable for local Republicans. Preliminary data shows that 61.25% of Arizona voters supported Prop. 139, concerning abortion rights, while Mohave County narrowly opposed it with 47,543 votes against and 47,099 in favor.

Officials from the Mohave County Clerk’s Office have indicated that the governing board will discuss the 2024 General Election canvass at their meeting on Nov. 18 in Kingman.
