Revamping Main Street: New Pilot Parking Program on the Horizon for Next Year

Parking in downtown Lake Havasu City may undergo significant changes next year as the City Council considers a pilot parking program. This initiative arises from concerns raised by the Downtown Association regarding parking availability in the area.
The proposed plan includes the creation of ten, two-hour parking spaces along McCulloch Boulevard, spanning from Acoma Boulevard to Mulberry Avenue. City officials have been collaborating with the Downtown Association for several months, drafting a viable strategy to enhance the parking situation.
In May, the Downtown Association sent a formal request to the city, recommending four key revisions to existing parking regulations within the Downtown District. Erica McCorkle, the association’s president, emphasized that a tailored approach is necessary, as each block experiences unique challenges.
The proposal expands beyond just the two-hour spots. It also suggests that property owners take charge of maintaining their associated parking lots. Further recommendations include dismantling barriers, like fences, that impede access between lots and permitting the installation of city-approved parking signs by business owners. At least some of these ideas have been integrated into a city resolution under consideration.
If approved, the pilot program would launch on January 1, 2025, with a one-year duration unless extended by the council. Enforcement of the two-hour parking limit would be managed by the Lake Havasu City Police Department.
The City Council will deliberate on this matter during their meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at 92 Acoma Blvd.
