Burritos to Burros

Don Senneville and Jim White

At Black Mountain Coffee Shop and Lounge, the “burrito wars” took an unexpected turn with the introduction of a promising Bacon Breakfast Burrito. Infused with fresh green chilis and a variety of ingredients, this burrito hints at culinary excellence. However, medical concerns have brought the competition to a halt. Don’s lab results revealed alarmingly high bacon levels, proving once more that indulgence can come at a cost.

Despite this setback, the duo has enlisted surrogate tasters among their loyal readers. Volunteers have committed to providing insights about bacon breakfast burritos located within a three-mile radius of the Sundial. The need for diversifying their culinary exploration has also emerged; perhaps granola or fresh fruit can become the new focus. Suggestions are welcome.

Contemplating the symbolic weight of a bacon burrito, they pondered the broader implications—where burros, more than just pack animals, also reflect human experiences. While a burrito might satisfy hunger, a burro could serve as a metaphorical balm for mental burdens. This line of thought raises an intriguing question: Might the companionship of burros enhance our understanding of life’s challenges?

To explore this idea, the duo visited “The Donkeys of the Heart” at Spur Cross. Here, real burros collaborate with humans, inviting reflections on shared responsibilities. This intersection of culinary pursuit and philosophical inquiry has led to a deeper appreciation of both food and the burdens we carry. A playful assertion in this context: “I feel like a burro today” could resonate with both hunger and life’s heavier demands.

In this charming desert space, they encountered an old friend, Hilda, who, alongside her French partner, creates a delightful and meaningful environment. The experience left a lasting impression, fundamentally altering their perceptions of both donkeys and burritos.

As they ventured back to Coffee Row, they met a devoted coffee enthusiast at The Village Coffee and Creperie. This couple, on a quest for the ideal mocha, shared a wealth of knowledge about combining chocolate and coffee. Their insights highlighted the complexities involved in crafting that perfect drink.

After sampling a Starbucks Iced Mocha, with its intricate order specifications, they contemplated a simpler approach. The concept of a “flat brown,” a combination of double espresso and chocolate, emerged as a brilliant alternative. Continued documentation of their friends’ mocha quest promises future revelations.

With Halloween approaching and a rainy November anticipated, Coffee Row is poised for a vibrant season. The local coffee culture thrives, encouraging everyone to embrace the phrase, “Carefree and Caffeinated.” For more updates, connect with The CUP at [email protected].
