AMA Steps Up for a Game-Changing Election Day 2024
The Arizona Media Association (AMA) is championing democratic engagement as it prepares for the upcoming elections. Recognizing the essential role of informed citizenry, the AMA is dedicated to fostering platforms for public discourse that enable individuals to voice their opinions on governance.
In recent months, the AMA has actively promoted democratic involvement through various initiatives. These include hosting candidate debates, establishing an election-day hotline for journalists, and urging voters to prioritize issues and candidates that resonate with them.
In collaboration with The Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission, the AMA has made significant strides toward making the 2024 debates the most accessible in the state’s history. This year, a total of 29 debates will feature candidates from Arizona’s U.S. Senate race, U.S. Congressional districts, Corporation Commission, select county-level races, and key ballot propositions.
Chris Kline, President and CEO of the AMA, stated, “Politics are charged right now. Providing any forum for voters to hear from candidates—along with seeing their interactions—is a service worth dedicating the time to do.” Accessibility is a priority; all debates will include Spanish audio translation and ASL interpreters. Each candidate will receive equal time for questions, with opportunities to request rebuttals on the spot.
Additionally, the AMA is introducing a legal support system for journalists during the election period. Partnering with a local law firm, the AMA will offer a 24/7 emergency legal hotline free of charge to assist journalists facing election-related inquiries or challenges.
The Arizona Media Association is urging residents to participate actively in the electoral process. As the state approaches the 2024 general election, the AMA emphasizes the importance of voting and fostering community connections to strengthen democracy.
