Winter weather moves in this weekend

PHOENIX — Arizona is bracing for a weather shift as a new system brings winds, rain, and mountain snow starting late Saturday and continuing into Sunday.

Saturday’s temperatures will reach a pleasant high of around 80 degrees in the Valley, while the High Country will see highs in the 50s and 60s. Flagstaff, specifically, is expected to have a high of just 53 degrees, with isolated rain showers.

By Saturday afternoon, rain chances will increase across the state, with the majority of precipitation and high elevation snow forecasted for Sunday. Although most rainfall is projected in the higher terrains north and east of the Valley, showers may also affect lower desert areas. On Sunday, anticipated rain will be most prevalent in the foothills and northern and eastern regions of the Valley. Areas above 6,000 feet should prepare for potential winter driving conditions with light snow accumulation.

A cold front moving through will lower Valley highs to the lower 70s and High Country highs to the 40s. Following this front, below-normal temperatures are expected to persist throughout the upcoming week. The Valley should range in the 70s next weekend, compared to the average high of 83 degrees for this time of year.

Seven-Day Forecast:

SUNDAY: 73/59 – Scattered showers

MONDAY: 75/53 – Mostly sunny & below average

TUESDAY: 76/50 – Sunny & below average

WEDNESDAY: 77/51 – Mostly sunny

THURSDAY: 72/48 – Mostly sunny

FRIDAY: 74/46 – Mostly sunny
