BBB Empowers Havasu Small Businesses with Exclusive Financial Workshop

A one-day workshop is set to empower entrepreneurs and small business owners by guiding them through the intricacies of financial lending. Scheduled for Wednesday, the event will take place at Nomadic in Lake Havasu City, attracting local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The workshop, organized in partnership with Prestamos CDFI, which operates under Chicanos Por La Causa, alongside Havasu’s Better Business Bureau (BBB), aims to enhance the financial literacy of participants. Senior business advisor Martin Mendoza emphasized that Prestamos focuses on both lending and business education. This workshop is part of a broader initiative facilitated by the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), managed by the Arizona Commerce Authority.
“This year we held one in each county in person,” Mendoza noted, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the BBB. The session will feature a 90-minute presentation led by Eduardo Borquez, the BBB’s director of business and entrepreneur engagement, who will underscore the partnership’s role in providing valuable resources for local small businesses.
Additionally, Krystyna Hook, senior director of brand strategies and social impact at BBB, will discuss the Kiva Loan program, which is integral to fostering entrepreneurship. According to Hook, the BBB loan serves as a vital financial resource, promoting accessibility for new ventures.
“Hosting collaborative events aligns with our goal of supporting and empowering small businesses,” Hook stated, highlighting Nomadic as an ideal venue to bring diverse organizations together.
Borquez elaborated on the Kiva program, which offers zero-interest loans up to $15,000 with repayment terms extending to 36 months. This structure ensures affordable capital for borrowers, free from traditional loan costs.
“Partnering with organizations that share our commitment to supporting small businesses strengthens our community and builds a more resilient local economy,” he added. Mendoza reinforced that Wednesday’s workshop aims to prepare attendees for the loan application process, focusing on loan readiness and financing options.
“Attendees will feel more prepared for a loan, learning practical strategies to engage with lenders,” Mendoza remarked. The workshop will run from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Nomadic, located at 2119 McCulloch Blvd. N.
