Anderson dealership project moves forward after protest deemed invalid


The Lake Havasu City Council has approved the Anderson Powersports dealership project despite a protest from neighbors. The decision came after city staff confirmed that the protest did not meet the necessary legal requirements.

Planning Division Manager Chris Gilbert reported that only eight property owners filed a protest for a total of ten nearby lots, falling short of the threshold needed for validation. He noted that the local ordinance requires signatures from at least 20% of property owners in the zoning area, yet only 15.5% participated.

Resident concerns over building positioning, noise, and light pollution were discussed during multiple public hearings. Though apprehensions were voiced by those living nearby, the City Council voted unanimously in favor of the project following presentations from both city staff and the applicant’s representative, Mychal Gordon of Desert Land Group.

The new dealership will be located at 2801 Highway 95, on land previously owned by the city, known as the “Kiowa Ponds” area. This land was sold earlier this year by JC Capital, LLC.

Gordon explained that the dealership aims to consolidate Anderson’s existing locations into a state-of-the-art facility. Currently, Anderson operates two powersports dealerships — one on N. Lake Havasu Avenue and another on Sweetwater Avenue.

The design includes a 25-foot tall showroom and a 36-foot sales and service center, which features 45-foot towers. Additionally, a portion of the property will be reserved for potential future development.
