Family Legacy Sparks Inspiring New Novel
In mid-August, Michele Feeney, a long-time resident of North Central, unveiled her debut novel, “Like Family.” The narrative draws from her rich experiences as a mother to five children, both biological and adopted, and a grandmother to three. Feeney’s reflections during the COVID-19 pandemic became a springboard for her creativity. Influenced by a story shared by her grandmother, she envisioned how families in rural Michigan coped with the Spanish influenza epidemic of 1918, which ultimately shaped her new work.
Feeney is not only an author but also a professor at Arizona State University’s law school. Her current projects include a collection of short stories and an insightful book of essays focused on a young man navigating life within the Arizona Department of Corrections system. Additionally, she plans to expand her literary journey with a sequel to “Like Family,” establishing a series that promises to delve deeper into her characters’ lives.
