Phoenix Police Unmask Impaired Driver Behind Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident

PHOENIX — A 19-year-old man has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred early Saturday morning. According to the Phoenix Police Department (PPD), the crash was reported around 6 a.m. at the intersection of 58th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 51-year-old Aquileo Najera suffering from serious injuries. Despite the efforts of firefighters, Najera succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Witnesses indicated that the driver involved in the incident fled the area after the collision.
The police investigation led to the identification of the suspect as Jesus Enrique Renteria Arroyo. Authorities located him at a nearby home shortly after the accident and took him into custody. Initial findings suggest that he was speeding and disregarded a stop sign at the intersection before crashing into Najera’s vehicle.
Renteria Arroyo allegedly admitted to being impaired at the time of the crash. He now faces multiple charges, including DUI, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence.
