Minecraft Meets Maricopa: Brothers Reconstruct Copper Sky One Block at a Time

Jonathan Fish, a 19-year-old from Tortosa, has impressively reconstructed the Copper Sky Recreation Complex in the popular video game Minecraft. Along with his brother Adam, Fish put a Maricopa twist on their shared passion for Minecraft Education.
The duo meticulously crafted one of Maricopa’s iconic landmarks, mirroring its details and scale from the comfort of their home. Both brothers bring personal experience to this project, having worked as lifeguards at the Copper Sky pool.
Following a noteworthy teaching stint, Jonathan holds the distinction of being the youngest teacher at Desert Sunrise High School. At just 17, he made his mark in the Maricopa Unified School District, and he continues to substitute teach while preparing for a bilingual mission in Utah for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“We just thought this would be a fun side project,” Jonathan remarked, highlighting the enjoyment he and his brother have found in the game since its release in 2011. Although Adam preferred to stay out of the limelight, the collaboration has been fulfilling.
Describing the project, Jonathan said, “It’s a parody of Copper Sky in the form of a horror movie trailer. A lot of inside jokes.” His coworkers responded positively, sharing laughter at the creative endeavor. They began their build from the pool’s pump room, which Jonathan humorously called “a pretty scary place,” drawing from his lifeguarding experience.
Feedback on their Minecraft rendition has been encouraging, with some urging Jonathan to expand his vision further. “Some people told me to start building a whole city, but I’m afraid that would now be a little ambitious,” he acknowledged.
This year, Jonathan is set to embark on a mission to Mexico City, where he will immerse himself in the Spanish language. Following this, he plans to travel to Salt Lake City to continue his missionary work among Spanish-speaking communities.
