Mohave County Fair rakes in $260k, sees growing popularity

The Mohave County Fair reported a notable 6% increase in attendance this year, generating over $260,000 in revenue. County officials are hailing the event as a resounding success.

This year’s fair marked the third under county oversight after the Mohave County Fairgrounds Association was replaced in 2022. The transition aimed to address longstanding complaints about the fairgrounds, which had suffered from deteriorating conditions, safety issues, and poor financial management. Although renovations are still in progress, the contribution of county staff, volunteers, and community support has been pivotal to this year’s achievements.

Mohave County Manager Sam Elters expressed gratitude for the dedicated efforts of those involved, stating, “I am very pleased with this year’s success and am grateful and proud of all the county staff and awesome volunteers.” He emphasized the fair’s role in fostering community spirit and showcasing local talent.

Three years prior, the Kingsman fairgrounds were assessed to require roughly $500,000 in improvements due to significant deterioration. The county fair struggled financially in the wake of these necessary upgrades, with officials projecting that it would not become a profitable event until 2025.

Since July, the county has allocated over $30,000 for facility enhancements, including upgrades to fire safety systems and electrical infrastructure. The investment in energy-efficient lighting and other improvements adds to the hundreds of thousands already spent on refurbishing the fairgrounds since 2022.

Public Works Director Steve Latoski commended the involvement of community participants and fairgoers alike, noting their collective efforts helped create a memorable experience for all attendees.
