One dead in accidental shooting

A tragic incident in Lake Havasu City has resulted in the death of a local man, who was mistakenly shot by a homeowner during a late-night confrontation.

According to reports, officers were called to the 2100 block of Barranca Drive around 11 p.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a victim in the rear of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite police efforts to provide immediate life-saving measures, paramedics transported the victim to Havasu Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators have identified homeowner Justin Wilcox, 52, as the shooter. Wilcox allegedly mistook the victim for an intruder. Shockingly, the victim was revealed to be another resident of the home.

Wilcox has been arrested on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter. Following his initial court appearance, he was held on a $500,000 bond and transferred to Mohave County Jail.

As the investigation continues, authorities have withheld the victim’s identity pending notification of his next of kin.
