Former Middle School Principal in Maricopa Speaks Out in Support of Prop 488
Maricopa, AZ – Rick Abel, a dedicated supporter of the Maricopa Unified School District (MUSD) and a 19-year resident of the community, has voiced his support for Proposition 488, an initiative aimed at addressing the district’s growing enrollment needs.
Proposition 488 seeks to secure $70 million for the construction of two new K-8 schools and the expansion of high school classrooms and programs. Importantly, the bond is structured to avoid any increase in tax rates, a critical factor for local taxpayers.
Since Abel’s relocation to Maricopa, the district has witnessed substantial growth—from five schools and 1,600 students to 11 schools with over 9,000 students enrolled today. This rapid growth necessitates urgent action to further support the educational framework in the area.
Abel emphasizes that supporting Prop 488 is essential for ensuring that MUSD can keep pace with the escalating number of students. In addition to building new schools, the initiative aims to enhance workforce development programs in high schools, equipping students with the skills needed for successful careers.
As the demand for educational resources continues to rise, Abel calls for community unity in passing Prop 488, highlighting its importance for the future of Maricopa’s children and the community at large. “Let’s come together to pass Prop 488 for the betterment of our schools and students,” he stated.
Rick Abel previously served as principal of Maricopa Wells Middle School and remains committed to the educational advancement of the community.
