Two I-10 closures, other restrictions this weekend, Oct.4-7

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced significant improvements on Phoenix-area freeways, leading to several closures and lane restrictions over the weekend of October 4-7. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes during this period.

Westbound Interstate 10 will experience closures from the I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport to the I-10 “Stack” interchange west of 19th Avenue. This segment will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday, primarily for paving and signage work. The southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10 will also be closed, along with other ramp closures in the vicinity. Detour options include taking northbound I-17 at the Split and reconnecting with I-10 at the Stack.

Additionally, eastbound Interstate 10 will be closed between US 60 (Superstition Freeway) and Ray Road. This closure runs from 10 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday, as part of the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Expect heavy traffic and delays. Alternative routes include traveling eastbound on Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to access I-10 beyond the affected area.

Loop 101 will also see westbound closures between 51st and 75th avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday for a new widening project. Drivers can use westbound Union Hills Drive or Bell Road as detours. The westbound Loop 101 Beardsley frontage road will remain open but limited to one lane, leading to potential delays.

In the northwest Valley, southbound Interstate 17 will be restricted to one lane between State Route 74/Carefree Highway and Dixileta Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday for pavement improvements. Restrictions will break periodically, ending by 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Lastly, the southbound State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) will be closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday for traffic shifts. The westbound Loop 202 ramp to Sky Harbor Boulevard will also be closed. Motorists can access the airport via southbound 44th Street.
