Heartfelt Havasu Ceremony Shines a Light on Mothers Mourning Fallen Military Heroes

This Sunday, Wheeler Park will host the Gold Star Mothers Candlelight Ceremony, a poignant tribute organized by Lake Havasu City Military Moms. This annual event honors mothers who have lost children in military service, providing a space for remembrance and reflection.
According to President Cindy Ritter of the nonprofit group, typically fewer than one hundred attendees join the ceremony. The event will feature a speaker who introduces each honored family, alongside a presentation of colors that sets a respectful tone before the lighting of candles.
“It’s one of the hardest events to do because I’m reminding the moms and their families of the worst day of their life,” Ritter noted, emphasizing the emotional weight of the occasion. As the names of the fallen are read, candles will be lit in their memory, creating a solemn atmosphere enhanced by the playing of Taps at the event’s conclusion.
This year, eleven servicemembers will be recognized, continuing a tradition that has spanned over a decade. “I believe it’s important to hold this to bring awareness to our community and anyone who happens to read about it, the sacrifices that are made for our freedom,” Ritter added, expressing a desire for greater community participation.
The ceremony is set to commence at 6 p.m. and will likely last under an hour. Those interested can find Wheeler Park at 1801 McCulloch Blvd. N., located in the roundabout.
