What's open, what's closed around Tucson on the 4th of July

Independence Day, celebrated on July 4, falls on a Friday this year, offering many Americans an extended weekend.

In Tucson, city offices will close for the holiday, with the exception of emergency services. Despite the holiday, city trash collection will follow its usual schedule, and the Los Reales landfill will remain accessible.

Federal offices, most banks, and U.S. stock exchanges will be closed. Additionally, U.S. Postal Service offices will not operate, leading to a halt in mail deliveries. UPS stores will largely be closed, except for UPS Express Critical services. FedEx facilities will have limited hours or be closed entirely, barring FedEx Custom Critical services.

The Motor Vehicle Division will not be available, and both Pima Community College and the University of Arizona will observe closures.

Retail operations will see most Walmart and Target locations open for business. Meanwhile, Reid Park Zoo will welcome visitors from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering a military appreciation discount. The Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum will also maintain regular hours, open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sun Tran customer service will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. That day, Sun Tran, Sun Van, and Sun on Demand services will operate on a Sunday schedule, with most bus routes concluding service before 9 p.m. Meanwhile, the Sun Shuttle ADA Dial-a-Ride service will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, Sun Express and Sun Shuttle will not operate.

The Sun Link streetcar will adhere to a Sunday schedule from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., extending service for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the “A” Mountain fireworks show. This streetcar provides free transport to two fireworks viewing areas: the Tucson Convention Center and the Mercado District, both of which are accessible via Sun Tran. Regular service hours will resume on Saturday, July 5.
