In attempt to beat up child, 43-year-old man arrested for assaulting disabled woman

Maricopa police apprehended a 43-year-old man from Acacia Crossings last week following an incident involving a disabled stroke victim. The arrest was made after he allegedly attempted to strike a child, resulting in the assault of the victim.

Officers were dispatched to Alamendras Street at approximately 2:10 p.m. on March 11 in response to reports of a fight. However, by the time they arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.

Witnesses recounted seeing a man exit a maroon Dodge Durango, swinging at a young boy, and subsequently knocking a woman to the ground. After the altercation, the assailant immediately left, prompting multiple calls to law enforcement.

Upon arrival, officers found the woman on the ground, visibly upset with a bloody mouth and broken glasses. According to police records, she was a stroke survivor from 2015, which left her with limited mobility and speech difficulties.

Authorities obtained home surveillance footage that corroborated witness accounts. Nearby children recognized the assailant as Virge Lamar Roberson Jr., a resident of the same neighborhood.

Hours later, police located Roberson at his home, where he was observed wearing the same clothing captured on video. He claimed that his son had been involved in a fight, prompting him to confront the child on Alamendras Street.

Roberson was arrested and faces multiple charges, including assault, disorderly conduct, criminal damage, and vulnerable adult abuse. He was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Facility, where he could potentially face four years in prison if convicted.
