30 Injured in Arizona Restaurant Crash: Drunk Driving Suspected in Truck Collision

The city of Apache Junction faced a significant incident over the weekend, as 30 individuals sustained injuries due to a crash involving a suspected drunk driver at the Elks Lodge.

The accident took place on Saturday at 2455 N Apache Trail, close to the intersection with Lost Dutchman Boulevard. A truck reportedly barreled into the restaurant, prompting immediate medical responses.

According to the Apache Junction Police Department, ten individuals were taken to local hospitals, while another 15 received treatment for minor injuries on-site. In addition, five individuals sought medical attention independently at various hospitals. One victim remains in critical but stable condition.

Police arrested 73-year-old Thomas Edward Kain, who is believed to have driven the truck while under the influence. Authorities confirmed that Kain had been leaving the Elks Lodge when he crashed into the building.

City officials echoed the dangers of drunk driving in a statement, emphasizing that alcohol severely impairs driving capabilities. They expressed gratitude that no fatalities occurred, acknowledging that the situation could have been far worse.

The city also conveyed its sympathies through a Facebook post, stating, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this incident.” They recognized the efforts of first responders working to assist victims during this challenging time.
