Fall-themed artwork is currently on display at the Maricopa Library and Cultural Center through mid-October 2024. The exhibit, titled “Fall Festivities: The Good Times in Fall,” features 13 selected pieces from various artists, including works from a 16-year-old artist. The Maricopa Cultural Affairs and Arts Advisory Committee, led by Peg Chapados, curates this gallery, which refreshes its themes triannually.

The chosen theme aims to embrace diverse interpretations, allowing artists to showcase their creativity beyond traditional autumn motifs. Additionally, 15% of commissions from sold artwork go back to the city, fostering local art appreciation. In previous exhibitions, three pieces were acquired by the city, contributing to a permanent collection accessible to residents.

Chapados emphasized the committee’s mission to elevate recognition for all art forms. “We’re trying to build an audience and space for various forms of art,” she stated, highlighting their desire to engage the community and promote the works of local artists.

A special event, “A Toast to The Artists Appreciation Reception,” is scheduled for October 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the same location. This gathering will honor past exhibits and express gratitude to participating artists. Attendees can savor refreshments and engage directly with artists, witnessing live art demonstrations.

“This reception aims to reflect on our previous galleries,” Chapados explained. “We want people to discover what we’re doing and connect with the future of Maricopa arts.” Maricopa Vice Mayor Amber Liermann is expected to speak during the event.

Another notable event, the Open Mic Showcase and Silent Auction, will occur on October 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mandy’s Wine Bar. This occasion promises a blend of performance art and visual creativity. Alongside live entertainment, a silent auction will feature pieces from prominent local artists like Crystal Dennis and Tiffany Yazzie.

Composer Judith Zaimont, co-founder of the Maricopa ARTS Council, expressed excitement about the showcase: “It’s a fantastic platform to highlight Maricopa’s artistic talents.” This event marks the second year of the open mic, allowing attendees a chance to purchase artwork from the silent auction, with reserve prices set by the artists.

“Our aim is to inspire appreciation for the artistic talent in our community,” Zaimont remarked. The upcoming events reflect the commitments of the Maricopa arts community to engage residents and celebrate local creativity.
