2025 Best Dads InMaricopa awarded

On June 14, 2025, Karsten’s Maricopa Ace Hardware hosted the annual Best Dad InMaricopa contest, celebrating fatherhood in the community. Over 120 dads were nominated for the honor, with three outstanding fathers ultimately recognized.

This year’s event was particularly special.

For the first time, Dave Karsten, owner of Karsten’s Ace Hardware, was joined by his son, Zach, at the ceremony. This father-son duo added a personal touch to the proceedings.

Zach, who has been working alongside his father, noted that stepping into a leadership role felt nostalgic. “Meeting people and interacting with the community is my favorite part of this event,” he remarked.

Dave expressed hopes of continuing this tradition, emphasizing the importance of community connection and honoring parents. “It’s a way to showcase the dedication of fathers who might otherwise go unrecognized,” he said.

The awards ceremony occurred at Karsten’s Ace Hardware, located at 21542 N. John Wayne Parkway.

Luis Vila took first place, surprising him as he arrived to pick up lumber. His family had secretly nominated him with eight entries, each citing his dedication to prioritizing family.

Lisha Vila described her husband as “truly selfless,” noting his commitment to their three young children, aged 6, 2, and 10 months.

Luis reflected, “Being a dad means fulfilling responsibilities without recognition. To know my family appreciates what I do is profound.”

Second place went to Stephen Admundson, who expressed surprise at his nomination and win. As a stay-at-home dad to his children, aged 5 and 3, he plays a pivotal role in their daily lives.

His wife, Tia Amundson, praised his contributions, stating, “He ensures everything runs smoothly at home while I focus on my career.” Stephen embodies the values he learned from being raised by a single mother.

“Every day spent with my kids feels like a dream,” Stephen shared.

Unfortunately, third-place winner Jeff Yount could not attend the ceremony due to prior travel commitments. His prize was accepted by neighbor Joey Coms.

Yount, the father of two, was nominated for his unwavering dedication. His wife Crystal described him as “the best dad in the nation,” highlighting his active role in their children’s lives despite recent personal loss.

Each award recipient received prizes. Vila chose a DeWalt Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Kit for first place.

Additional gifts included a year’s worth of free internet and various local business offerings, amplifying the celebration of fatherhood in Maricopa.

Second place winner Admundson was awarded a Milwaukee Trimmer along with several valuable gifts.

Yount’s third-place package included a set of grilling accessories. Though he couldn’t be present, his contributions to his family remain evident.

The Best Dad InMaricopa contest highlighted the joy and dedication of fathers in the community, ensuring their efforts don’t go unnoticed.
