2025 Best Moms InMaricopa awarded

On May 10, 2025, a heartwarming ceremony took place at Karsten’s ACE Hardware to honor the remarkable mothers in Maricopa through the annual Best Mom contest. This tradition recognizes the hard work and dedication of moms nominated by their families and friends. Fifteen mothers were nominated, and a panel selected three outstanding winners.

“This event serves as a great opportunity for community engagement and a way to honor mothers,” stated Dave Karsten, owner of Karsten’s ACE Hardware. His son, Zach, recently joined as co-owner and expressed enthusiasm about participating in his first community event.

Among the honored was Jessica Ward, who won first place as the Best Mom in Maricopa. Surprised by her nomination, she reflected on the experience while surrounded by her children. As an elementary school teacher, Jessica has faced significant challenges, including recovering from brain surgery and undergoing chemotherapy. Her husband, Craig, celebrated her resilience, noting how she consistently supports their family through adversity.

Amy Shroeder received second place. A mother of two athletic teens, she was initially unaware of her nomination. Her husband, Larry, cleverly kept it a secret until the event revealed her victory. Amy also serves as a bus driver for local students. Larry praised her commitment, describing the demanding balancing acts she performs to support her active children.

Janet Hook, who earned third place, is a cancer survivor raising four children, including two who are adopted. Her husband, Michael, highlighted her dedication to their family despite her chronic health issues. Together with two of her sons, Janet attended the event and appreciated the recognition.

The winners received impressive prize packages. Jessica Ward chose an Ooni 2 wood pellet outdoor pizza oven, while Amy Shroeder opted for faux wood rocking chairs. Janet Hook humorously noted her new Craftsman pressure washer, a replacement for one she had been borrowing.

The event not only celebrated these incredible mothers but also fostered a sense of community spirit in Maricopa, showcasing the strength and resilience of its families.
