Two individuals were injured in a two-car accident at the intersection of State Route 347 and Riggs Road on April 9, 2025. Authorities reported that both victims were transported to a nearby hospital following the morning incident.

The crash happened during rush hour on the northbound side of SR 347, an area notorious for frequent traffic accidents. Emergency crews swiftly arrived at the scene, managing to clear the road, which has since reopened to traffic.

The extent of the injuries suffered by the two individuals has not yet been disclosed. Investigators are currently looking into the cause of the accident.

Witness accounts revealed a significant traffic backup, with Province resident Margo Saltzman noting a 10-mile delay around 10:30 a.m. Another local, Alterra resident Ronald Busch, described the situation as “pretty much shut down.” Eyewitnesses indicated that at least three vehicles were involved, including two yellow maid-service vans.

The Riggs Road and SR 347 intersection has a history of being a high-traffic area, having experienced numerous accidents over the years. Recent analysis showed that this intersection is among the ten deadliest in the Western United States, according to a study covering the years 2004 to 2022.

Moreover, statistics from the Arizona Department of Transportation revealed that, over the past five years, Riggs Road at SR 347 ranked fourth in collisions among signalized intersections on Arizona highways.

In a related development, state troopers conducted 17 traffic stops on SR 347 between 9 and 11 a.m. this morning, reflecting ongoing concerns about safety in the area.
