2 in Critical Condition, 4 Others Hurt in Fiery 4-Car Collision

UPDATE 7:48 p.m., Feb 8, 2025: A four-car crash has left six individuals hospitalized, with two suffering life-threatening injuries, according to the Maricopa Police Department.
Monica Williams, a spokesperson for the department, reported that initial responders found a vehicle that had collided head-on with another, resulting in two additional cars being struck. Emergency medical teams transported two critically injured persons via helicopter to nearby Valley hospitals, while four others were taken by ambulance with varying degrees of injuries.
Given the serious nature of the incident, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit has joined the investigation, which remains ongoing.
State Route 238 is currently closed between White Road and Southern Dunes Golf Course due to the crash, with an anticipated extended closure. Westbound traffic is being turned around at the entrance to The Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course, and eastbound traffic entering Maricopa is being redirected onto White Road. Traffic conditions are expected to remain challenging for the next few hours as cleanup and investigation efforts proceed.
Flight radar data indicates that two medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene. Local resident George Kenny shared images of the helicopter landings on a community social media platform, highlighting the serious response from emergency services.
An initial response to the accident began at about 4:39 p.m., according to Phoenix Regional Dispatch, which noted that units from both Phoenix and Sun Lakes were involved. Maricopa Police Department has urged drivers to seek alternate routes due to the ongoing situation.
