Teen, 16, shot in Homestead Park

Maricopa police are investigating a shooting that occurred at the Homestead Community Park in the early hours of September 28. A 16-year-old boy sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound following an altercation in the park.

According to police spokesperson Monica Williams, officers were alerted to the situation around 10:30 p.m. when an unidentified teenager flagged them down at the intersection of Homestead Drive and Continental Boulevard. The victim was found injured and attempting to call for help.

Initial reports indicate that the teen had been at the park earlier that evening when the altercation erupted. An unknown suspect allegedly shot him before fleeing the scene. The specific details surrounding the confrontation have not been disclosed, nor have officers revealed the exact location of the victim’s injuries.

The injured teen is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Investigators from the Maricopa Police Department’s criminal investigation unit are actively working on the case. Detectives plan to examine unspent rounds recovered from the scene to gather more evidence.
