The Cultural Coalition is set to host the 13th annual Mikiztli: Día de los Muertos Phoenix Festival on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 7 p.m. This vibrant celebration takes place at Steele Indian School Park, located at 300 E. Indian School Road. Admission is free, making it an accessible event for families looking to honor their departed loved ones and embrace Southwest, Mexican, and Latin American culture.

This year’s festival promises an array of cultural performances, food trucks, and a significant community altar, known as an ofrenda. Activities will keep attendees of all ages engaged, offering everything from mariachi music and ballet folklórico to arts and crafts. For those arriving early, the festival will feature a traditional Danza Mexica ceremony.

The evening culminates in a sunset procession led by “Las Flacas,” towering animated skeleton puppets. This procession will transition into a celebratory dance party, complete with live music. A full day of artistic and cultural offerings awaits those who join this cherished community event.
