1 Fatality and 1 Injury as Fleeing Vehicle Slams into Building, Ignites Blaze

AVONDALE, Ariz. — A tragic incident unfolded early Saturday morning, resulting in one fatality and another person critically injured after their vehicle collided with a building while fleeing from police. The Phoenix Police Department reported that the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. near Buckeye and Dysart roads, where a convenience store was involved.

Officers had attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, which then “drove away from officers at a high rate of speed.” The pursuit eventually led to the vehicle entering the I-10 westbound as a police helicopter arrived and began tracking the situation.

Authorities identified the deceased as a teenage male. Video footage from the scene depicts both the vehicle and the building engulfed in flames as a result of the crash.
