Racist graffiti has emerged on a construction sign in the Santa Rosa Springs neighborhood, prompting action from local authorities. The graffiti, spotted on September 23, 2024, reads “Wite Power,” a phrase spray-painted over a notice indicating that part of Iron Point Road is closed ahead.

The defacement was observed near the entrance of the community while driving southbound on Iron Point at Manderas Lane. Concerned community members have voiced their disgust regarding the incident. Ricky Meyer, a local resident, described the message as “racist” and noted that he has seen the scrawl for at least a week.

Monica Williams, a spokesperson for the Maricopa Police Department, stated that the graffiti had not been reported prior to the recent sightings. However, she assured the community that the police would address the issue with the construction company responsible for the sign.

The area is currently undergoing development with a new apartment complex, which includes planned vehicular access. The presence of such offensive messages raises concerns regarding community safety and inclusivity.
