When is the DNC?

The Democratic National Convention is set to be hosted in Chicago and will include delegates from all 50 states.

CHICAGO — With the Republican National Convention concluded and President Joe Biden out of the race, attention is turning to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August.

Delegates at the DNC will officially nominate the party’s candidates for the 2024 election. Although the list of speakers hasn’t been publicized, past conventions have featured prominent figures, according to TIME.

President Biden’s recent decision to drop out and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris has added a layer of anticipation to the DNC, marking it as a pivotal event in the presidential race.

The DNC is scheduled to take place at the United Center in Chicago from August 19 to 22.

Biden’s earlier victories had garnered him the majority of the party’s 4,000-plus delegates, who will now need to redirect their votes to a new candidate.

The withdrawal of a presumptive nominee this close to an election is unprecedented, with the last comparable instance being President Lyndon Johnson’s 1968 decision not to run amid the Vietnam War.

Vice President Harris, aged 59, is viewed as the natural successor, largely due to her ability to access the Biden campaign’s funds under federal finance rules.

The Democratic National Convention will be broadcast on 12News.com and 12News, along with a live stream available via the 12News+ app. Other major networks will also cover the event.

To watch on-demand, add the 12News+ channel on Roku or search for “12 News KPNX” on Amazon Fire TV to access the app. Updates will also be available on the 12News YouTube channel.
