WATCH: Clueless Burglar Botches Home Invasion, Ends Up Snatching Garden Gnome
The Maricopa Police Department has unveiled new surveillance and body camera footage showcasing one of last year’s most bizarre crimes. On North Anne Lane in Rancho El Dorado, 27-year-old Sage E. Owens was caught attempting a series of unusual acts.
The footage reveals Owens walking up to a home, spray-painting the doorbell camera, and trying to break into the front windows. After several unsuccessful minutes, she abandoned the window and turned her attention to a car parked in the driveway.
Her antics didn’t stop there. Owens reportedly stole a garden gnome from the neighboring house. The recently released bodycam footage later shows officers questioning Owens on a nearby street while she casually eats an orange.
Owens had black spray paint on her hands and was in possession of the garden gnome. She initially insisted she had done nothing wrong. When officers inquired about the spray paint can in her bag, Owens gave conflicting stories. First, she claimed she asked someone else to paint the doorbell, then later said that someone else had requested to use her spray paint.
Ultimately, Owens admitted to spray-painting the doorbell. However, her story fell apart when another individual, reportedly involved, denied any knowledge of her account. Officers then placed Owens in handcuffs and searched her bags, which contained the stolen garden gnome, the spray paint, and other assorted items.
Owens was subsequently booked into Pinal County jail, facing two felony charges for burglary and trespassing. The outcome of her case remains unknown, as court documents have yet to be made available.
