Video: Corvette Driver’s Wild Donuts in Tortosa Intersection Freaks Out Neighbors
Residents of Tortosa are growing increasingly concerned over a string of reckless driving incidents that jeopardize the safety of their community, particularly their children.
On July 9, local resident Jorge Hernandez captured a distressing scene on his cell phone: a silver Corvette performing donuts at the intersection of Terragona Boulevard and Isabella Lane. The video, sent to InMaricopa, highlights the brazen disregard for public safety displayed by the driver.
“I’m so tired of these people thinking that Terragona is a racetrack,” Hernandez expressed his frustration. “We have kids playing in the backyard. We have kids and families walking down the street.”
Car industry expert Adam Szafranski emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that such behavior is “highly illegal” in Arizona. “It is illegal to do donuts in an intersection in Arizona, or on any public street or roadway, as it is considered reckless driving,” he stated.
The consequences of this reckless behavior are severe. Drivers performing donuts in a residential area could face charges including reckless driving, blocking an intersection, stunting, endangerment, public nuisance, and disorderly conduct. These charges could lead to years in jail, a suspended or revoked driver’s license, and hefty fines totaling tens of thousands of dollars.
Despite the clear danger, the Maricopa Police Department did not respond to the incident at the time. Spokesperson Monica Williams stressed the importance of community involvement in such situations. “This is an important reminder that if residents see something, especially reckless behavior that could put others in danger, they need to call the police,” Williams said. “As much as we try to have an officer everywhere, all the time, that’s impossible. So, we rely on the assistance from the community to let us know when something is happening in their area.”
