Valley Freeways Face Major Weekend Shutdowns: July 26-29
Significant road closures and lane restrictions will impact Phoenix drivers this weekend due to freeway improvement projects. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced the following restrictions effective from Friday, July 26, to Monday, July 29.
Southbound Interstate 17 will be shut down between Loop 303 and Happy Valley Road in north Phoenix starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Additionally, the northbound Loop 101, also known as Price Freeway, will be closed between US 60 and Loop 202 in the East Valley during the same period.
In another major restriction, eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes between 24th Street and Broadway Road near Sky Harbor Airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. This is part of the ongoing Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
Drivers should also note that the westbound US 60 ramp to eastbound I-10 in Tempe will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. For comprehensive updates and details, visit the ADOT site.
Furthermore, southbound Interstate 17 will be narrowed to one lane south of the Interstate 10 “Stack” interchange near downtown Phoenix on Friday night for bridge repairs at the Grant Street overpass. The restrictions will be in place from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.
Additional closures in the same area include the westbound I-10 ramp to southbound I-17 and the narrowing of the eastbound I-10 ramp to southbound I-17 to one lane. The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Jefferson Street will also be closed.
Drivers on southbound I-17 may consider using eastbound I-10 in the downtown Phoenix area or exiting at McDowell Road and using the southbound frontage road to reenter I-17 at Grant Street.
Lastly, the southbound I-17 ramp to eastbound I-10 at the “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will remain closed for work related to the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
Further information about these restrictions and potential detours can be found on the ADOT website or by accessing the Weekend Travel Advisory map.
