Uniformed Officer Reacts Violently to Citizen’s Short Joke

A Maricopa Police Department officer has resigned after a video recording caught her making racially insensitive comments. The incident involved Officer Tracy Slider, whose resignation was confirmed by police officials on Friday.

The video, released by the Maricopa Police Department, shows a conversation between Slider and a gas station employee. The footage, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by InMaricopa, captures the discussion about respect and body shaming.

The recording, initially linked to an unrelated burglary case involving a stolen lawn gnome, reveals Slider stopping at Circle K on John Wayne Parkway to fill her coffee tumbler. During the visit, she engaged with an employee named Deb, who seemed visibly upset.

In the video, Deb apologizes for an earlier incident where someone made a joke about Slider’s height. Slider compared this to making offensive remarks about someone’s physical appearance, which escalated when she uttered, “My God, you’re so Black.”

Slider further recounted a Halloween episode when her police uniform was mistaken for a costume, after which she reportedly told an employee, “I can still kick your ass.”

After resigning from MPD, Slider was recently sworn into the Arizona State University Police Department. Despite the controversy, she has continued her law enforcement career.

Maricopa Police spokesperson Monica Williams has not provided additional comments on the matter. The bodycam footage is available for public viewing.
