The incident took place shortly after Trump took the stage around 6 p.m. Several loud pops were heard, prompting Secret Service agents to swiftly remove him from the stage. Video footage showed Trump reacting to something hitting his ear before being escorted away.
In a post on his verified account on Truth Social at 8:42 p.m., Trump confirmed he was shot, expressing gratitude to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their rapid response. He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and injured individuals. Trump detailed that a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear, causing significant bleeding.
