Traffic Signal Upgrades Set to Tackle Persistent Intersection Issues
Lake Havasu City is taking steps to reduce wait times at critical intersections as city officials target three traffic light locations for repairs. The identified intersections include Industrial Boulevard and Lake Havasu Avenue, S. Palo Verde Boulevard and Lake Havasu Avenue, along with S. Palo Verde Boulevard and N. Acoma Boulevard, where timing issues have been particularly problematic.
City Manager Jess Knudson noted that the repairs will address detection problems at the Acoma Boulevard and S. Palo Verde Boulevard intersection. These issues have led to unnecessary full cycles of the traffic lights, significantly impacting traffic flow.
“It does slow you down a little bit in terms of commuting and getting around the community, but we’ll get that addressed here shortly,” said Knudson. He added that the parts needed for repairs are expected to be installed within the next 30 to 40 days.
The city has allocated a budget of $85,000 from the Highway User Revenue Fund for this project. This includes $64,418 for equipment purchase, with an additional $20,582 earmarked for unforeseen needs.
According to City Council documents, the streets division is launching an upgrade replacement program. Moving forward, Knudson indicated that maintenance and repairs for approximately five additional stoplights will be prioritized to enhance overall traffic conditions in the community.
