Tempe man swipes his bathroom reno from Rancho Mirage construction site: cops

A Tempe man has been charged with theft after allegedly pilfering materials from a construction site in Maricopa, aiming for an inexpensive bathroom remodel.

The Maricopa Police Department reported that 40-year-old Francisco Ivan Yanez-Miranda faces charges in two felony cases stemming from these incidents. According to police documents, the first theft occurred on September 12 on La Paz Street, where Yanez-Miranda reportedly made off with $2,500 worth of shower supplies from Meritage Homes’ construction site. He evaded capture in his truck before officers arrived.

On September 17, Yanez-Miranda returned to the area, this time targeting a jobsite on San Clemente Street. Authorities claim he stole an additional $1,200 worth of construction materials during this visit.

Police tracked him down near Honeycutt and White and Parker Roads, where he confessed to both thefts. Yanez-Miranda claimed he took the supplies from dumpsters, asserting they were still in their original packaging.

A spokesperson for Meritage Homes stated that the stolen items were intended for use and should not have been discarded.

Following his arrest, Yanez-Miranda was booked into the Pinal County jail, with potential sentences exceeding seven years if convicted.
