Stolen Tempe car recovered after police chase near the US-Mexico border

A Phoenix man is now in custody following a dramatic police pursuit through Cochise County. The chase began with a vehicle—identified as a 2014 Toyota Prius—reported stolen from Tempe on January 10.

Law enforcement spotted the stolen vehicle on January 14 on Highway 191 near Pirtleville. The driver allegedly reached speeds of 100 mph and failed to stop despite police efforts, including the deployment of tire-deflation devices.

The pursuit continued for approximately 50 miles, eventually ending on Fulton Street in Tombstone, where the vehicle became inoperable. Both the driver, a Phoenix resident, and a San Tan Valley woman attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended.

The driver faces multiple charges, including vehicle theft, endangerment, and reckless driving. The female passenger has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.
