Stalker Ex Poses as Cop in Shocking Sex Trafficking Scam: Report
A man from Rancho El Dorado orchestrated an elaborate scheme involving multiple fabricated characters to target his estranged wife, police allege.
Gregory J. Middents, 39, was taken into custody on Thursday, accused of aggravated harassment and tampering with public records. Authorities say Middents falsely reported that his wife violated a protective order but was actually the one sending emails to himself and others under various pseudonyms.
According to the Maricopa Police Department, Middents crossed the line by impersonating an officer from their own force. He initially told police on April 11 that his wife had breached a protective order through email contact. However, the report indicates that Middents himself was the defendant in that protective order and continued to file similar allegations for months.
Investigators traced a suspect email account created in December to the same IP address Middents used to access his personal email, discrediting his claims. His wife had not been to that address in three years. Additionally, she was in a mental health facility without access to electronic devices.
Healthcare workers at the residence provided emails sent by Middents under his own and various false names, including one alias, Kristina Loughran. Each of these accounts matched those accessed from Middents’s cellphone.
Impersonating Kristina Loughran, Middents allegedly submitted two false reports to Arizona Adult Protective Services, claiming his wife was being abused by mental health care workers. Over time, MPD received ten false reports from Middents regarding his wife.
Middents also filed a petition for an order of protection in the Casa Grande City court, complete with fabricated information alleging that mental health professionals were aiding his wife in criminal activities against him.
An email where Middents posed as a Maricopa police officer drew significant attention from law enforcement. A police report noted that all documents created by Middents shared similar tone and content, focusing on contacting or locating his estranged wife.
Middents was arrested at his home on North Falcon Lane and booked into the Pinal County Jail. He faces up to two years in prison if convicted.
