An unforgiving balance beam tested competitors in event finals. Here’s how Simone Biles, Suni Lee fared.

PARIS, France — Simone Biles and Suni Lee faced a tough challenge in the balance beam finals on Monday, failing to secure a spot on the podium.

The demanding apparatus caused multiple falls among top contenders, including both American gymnasts.

Biles, a powerhouse in international gymnastics, had previously claimed bronze in this event during the 2016 and 2020 Summer Games.

Despite her experience, the 27-year-old athlete suffered a slip on the beam.

Attention now turns to Biles’ performance in the floor exercise final. She has dominated this event, remaining unbeaten in major international competitions, including clinching gold at the Rio Games.

Biles’ competition will include Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade and her U.S. teammate, Jordan Chiles.

While Biles has remained somewhat vague about her future post-Paris, she hinted at a possible return for the Los Angeles Olympics.

“Never say never,” Biles remarked after winning her second Olympic vault title on Saturday. “Next Olympics are at home. So you just never know. I am getting really old.”
