Primary’s Early Voting ‘On Track,’ Affirms Election Recorder

Early voter turnout in Pinal County for the July 30 primary election reached 11% on Wednesday with 28,966 ballots returned.

Pinal County Recorder Dana Lewis stated on Friday that early balloting is “on track” compared to past primary elections. Of the returned ballots, 17,317 were Republican, resulting in a 15.6% turnout. Democratic ballots totaled 10,929, marking a 16.5% turnout. Nonpartisan voters returned 2,605 ballots, accounting for 2.6%.

Early returns indicate that voters aged 55 and older are the largest voting bloc. The voter turnout by age group is as follows:

25 to 34: 911 total, or 2.2%

45 to 54: 2,012 total, or 5.4%
55 to 64: 4,243 total, or 10.5%
65 to 74: 9,330 total, or 20.6%
75 and above: 10,273 total, or 27%

Pinal County has 261,854 registered voters. Female voters comprise 50.2% of this group, while male voters account for 44.5%. Voters of undetermined gender make up 5.8%.

Of the ballots returned so far, 11.7% were from female voters and 10.1% were from male voters.
