Az dispensaries recalling marijuana concentrate due to possible piperonyl butoxide contamination

Arizona dispensaries are voluntarily recalling a marijuana concentrate/extract due to potential contamination with the pesticide piperonyl butoxide.

The affected product is DIME Mint OG concentrate/extract, specifically from batch number MOGBL0405, produced by Nature’s Wonder Inc, DBA Dime Industries.

No illnesses have been reported so far, according to state officials.

Piperonyl butoxide can cause skin irritation, numbness, itching, burning, stinging, tingling, or warmth for a few hours if exposed to small amounts. Larger exposures can result in more severe symptoms, including abnormal facial sensations, dizziness, nausea, headaches, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, or heightened sensitivity to sound and touch.

Consumers who have purchased this product are advised not to ingest, inhale, or use it in any manner. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) recommends disposing of the impacted product immediately.

Individuals experiencing symptoms after using the product should contact their healthcare provider or seek emergency care if necessary.

More detailed information on the health effects of pyrethrins and pyrethroids is available on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

The contamination issue was identified during a routine inspection by ADHS marijuana licensing inspectors, who found records indicating the product tested positive for the contaminant.

Once ADHS identified the potential contamination, they promptly contacted the producing facility. The licensee collaborated with distribution and retail partners to remove any potentially affected products from shelves promptly.

Consumers can review the testing requirements for marijuana products under Table 3.1 for each 9 A.A.C. 18 Adult-Use Marijuana Program and 9 A.A.C. 17 Medical Marijuana Program.

Previous recalls in Arizona, including those in May and November 2023, and throughout June, July, August, and October 2022, have also involved cannabis products. Similar recalls have occurred in California, Michigan, Florida, and Canada due to salmonella and aspergillus contamination.
