Pima Women Surge with 15-1 Third Quarter to Defeat Chandler-Gilbert

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team continues to showcase its strength, improving their record to 19-5 overall and 11-3 in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC). On Wednesday, they faced Chandler-Gilbert Community College, with the Aztecs emerging victorious, defeating the Coyotes 56-45.
Ranked No. 12, the Aztecs capitalized on a strong third quarter, overcoming a slight halftime deficit of 23-21. Freshman Kennedi Niemann ignited a crucial 15-1 run with a timely three-pointer, helping the team surge to a 36-24 lead. Pima stifled Chandler-Gilbert offensively, preventing any field goals from the Coyotes for over seven minutes during this pivotal period. By the end of the third quarter, the Aztecs held a comfortable 42-30 advantage.
Although the Coyotes made a push to close the gap, scoring six consecutive points to bring the score to 46-42, the Aztecs quickly responded. Sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer played a vital role, scoring on consecutive possessions, while freshman Kiley Sours-Miller provided essential assists. Hoffmeyer notched her third straight basket, restoring Pima’s double-digit lead. Ultimately, Sours-Miller finished the run, securing an 8-0 stretch for Pima, which gave them a commanding 54-42 lead.
Sours-Miller was a standout performer, finishing the game with 20 points and an impressive 18 rebounds, marking her 11th double-double of the season. Hoffmeyer contributed significantly as well, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the second half, along with six rebounds and three blocks. Niemann added to her team’s success, scoring all nine of her points in the second half while also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists. Freshman Lucy Land provided a boost off the bench, hitting four of five shots for a total of eight points.
The Aztecs will host South Mountain Community College this Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m., and Pima looks to continue its winning streak against their upcoming opponent.
