Pima County Expands Early Voting Locations Ahead of Crucial July 30 Primary
Pima County residents now have additional early voting locations to cast their ballots ahead of the July 30 primary election. These new sites are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and include the W. Anne Gibson-Esmond Station Library in Vail, and La Villita Community Center in the Sahuarita/Green Valley area.
An early voting site at the Oro Valley Library has been shut down due to a non-functional air conditioner, as reported by the Recorder’s Office. Alternative locations for early voting include the Pima County Recorder’s Office branches at 240 N. Stone Ave. and 6550 S. Country Club Rd., and Fellowship Bible Church at 6700 E. Broadway. Additionally, voters can drop off their early ballots at the recorder’s eastside office located at 6920 E. Broadway.
New early voting sites are set to open on Monday, July 22. Early voting began earlier this month and continues to be a critical phase for the upcoming primary election, which will determine the candidates for the U.S. Senate, Congress, the Arizona Legislature, and various local offices including the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
The last day to request an early ballot is July 19, either through the Recorder’s Office website or by calling 520-724-4330. Once mailed early ballots are received, staff must validate the voters’ signatures before transferring the ballots to the County Elections Department for tabulation.
So far, over 55,000 ballots have been processed and forwarded to the Elections Department. Pima County boasts a diverse voter registration with 231,815 Democrats, 173,977 Republicans, 4,578 Libertarians, 839 Greens, and 3,892 registered with the No Labels Party as of July 1. There are also 204,344 unaffiliated voters eligible to participate in either the Democratic or Republican primaries, although participation in the Libertarian and Green primaries is limited to party members only.
Emergency voting sites will operate on Saturday, July 27, and Monday, July 29, to accommodate last-minute voters. All early ballots must be submitted by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.
